The Body Snatchers have landed...

This is a strange plant that was growing up in the Smoky Mountains. I'm sure I've seen them before since I grew up going there, but when I was younger I didn't pay much attention to the flora like I do now. I'm trying to identify this plant. It reminds me of the movie Invasion of the Body Snatchers (that's a link to the 1978 remake which scared me deeply when I was a kid) because of the pods. If anyone knows what it is let me know. Thanks!

While looking up plants I found this one that has a great name!

Clitoria mariana L.

Don't recognize the first one and love the name of number 2! Does it usually grow near pussywillows?

Haha! I don't know. I have a pussywillow though (growing in my yard).

Been a lover of plants, flowers and gardening all my life. Actually my son is a very Successful Landscaper...will have to ask him, if he will look at the computer for a half second. Hard to get him over here to look at anything. Love him just the same though. (smiling)

We come from a family and generations of green thumbs! (smiling) Thanks for sharing the pictures, remember the movie too!

It's not a Jack-In-The-Pulpet is it?

suzie, that would be great if he can identify it. It was growing wild up in the mountains.

sierrabella, I've never seen a Jack-In-The-Pulpit in person so I'm not sure. This plant was tall, over 4 feet, and more foliage was growing out of the pods. If it blooms I have no idea what its flowers look like. Is J-I-T-P tall?
