Wow! That's a nice family Christmas. Here in England they're trying to outlaw the name Christmas as it is affiliated to just one religion, Christianity.

They want to rename it something that more people will feel in sympathy with, like Santa's Day.

I see the Americans have this issue as well:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,177045,00.html

WASHINGTON — House Speaker Dennis Hastert has told federal officials that the lighted, decorated tree on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, known in recent years as the "Holiday Tree," should be renamed the "Capitol Christmas Tree."

The name change on Tuesday comes one day after the Engelmann spruce was delivered from New Mexico to Capitol Hill for decorations and displays until Jan. 2.

Hastert will light the tree, referred to as the "People's Tree" by the New Mexico-based committee that delivered it, during a ceremony on Dec. 8.

The re-named tree was called a Christmas Tree until the late 1990s, when it was changed to the name "Holiday Tree." The source of the name change in the 1990s is unclear, but this year's Web site could not be changed and still refers to it as a holiday tree.

Calling a Christmas tree a Christmas tree has become a politically charged prospect in jurisdictions across the country, from Boston to Sacramento and in dozens of communities in between. The city of Boston changed the name of its Holiday Tree back to Christmas Tree after being threatened with several lawsuits.

I've asked Santa for a wife for Christmas by the way, as usual, but will probably get just an orange in a sock again ...

Hopefully the pendulum is swinging back towards the center and away from political correctness. Sure seems that way with the un-re-namings in Boston and at the Capital. The crazy thing is that an evergreen tree has always been associated with Christmas, never with any of the other holidays celebrated at this time of year. So how could it be a "holiday" tree? And for the record, I would not object to a Menorah being displayed at the Capital as well, in celebration of Hannukah.

Good luck with your Christmas wish, Nigel. If Santa's pressed for time, perhaps he can still squeeze in an inflatable wife for you. ;-)

sierrabella, yeah, some years there is more of it than others.

dh, thanks for playing! That Robot Commando looks really cool. Did the eyes really rotate?

nigel, thanks, I can't believe all the Grinches who want to steal Christmas. And I think it's probably too late for this year, but I do have some influence with Santa and will use it on your behalf for next Christmas. I can't make any promises about it, but maybe next Christmas will be your best. Then again, you know what they say about getting what you ask for... ;-) Have a very Merry Christmas!
